Starting Your Website

If you want to run with the big dogs, you will need a website. Not only that, you will need a well designed website that has a reliable host. My recommendation is Yahoo for several reasons.

First, they are reliable. Yahoo is a giant, and online giants have a reputation to protect. Your website will be up and running at all times. Should it not be? You have the power of Yahoo backing you up.

Second, they offer plenty of discounts and perks. Right now they are offering: Free Domain, Unlimited Disk Space, Unlimited Data Transfer. These perks are simply too hard to ignore when they come from a major company such as yahoo.

Blogs such as this are great for general communication, but when it comes down to business, you will need a website. You can learn more about Yahoo hosting here: Yahoo! Web Hosting

What Does A Freelancer Do?

What does a online freelancer do on their birthday? Work, of course. Well, at least part of the day. The work of a freelancer is never done people! Later I will have cake, and will likely watch Christmas movies way earlier than most normal people would. This has pretty much become a tradition, as I am a huge fan of Christmas.

Before I run off to complete my work so the celebration can begin, I wanted to give you a gift. You can give me one next year. :) The company, GetAbstract, is offering free business book summaries. These summaries can be read in less than ten minutes, and provide truly helpful business information. For those looking to make their break into the online business world, this is great information. Oh, and they are free. Free is good! Get them here: Free Business Book Summaries

The Drop Shipping Game

Much ado has been made about freelance selling on eBay recently. Clearly, eBay is no longer the goldmine that it used to be. However, it is still possible to use this massive auction site to make money. The question that most people ask is, "What do I do after I have sold all of the extra junk I had?" That, my friends, is a good question.

Once you have cleared out last years unwanted Christmas gifts, all of those older generation cell phones, and those video games that your kids never play, you will need more products. Drop shipping is the process of listing items online, and then ordering them once they have sold. The reason that this can be profitable is that you sell the items for more than the price that you will have to pay.

There are websites that offer free drop shipping service, as well as those that charge a fee. The main difference between the two is that the paid services are more reliable and offer a huge variety of products. I personally recommend Doba, as they have always been good to me. However, feel free to explore other options.

If you would like to see what Doba has to offer, and to learn a lot more about exactly how drop shipping works, click on the enticing little advertisement below.

The Bulk of My Freelance Work

What I do most each day is write. I write, then I write, and then I write some more. I will not lie to you and tell you that freelance writing jobs are easy, or that they pay a fortune. There are days when I'm certain that my eyeballs are going to jump out of their sockets in protest of staring at my computer screen.

What do I write about? Everything. You can view some of my articles here: Yahoo Contributor Network. Why am I showing you this? Because Yahoo is always accepting new freelance writers. There are two ways in which to make money from this site. Yahoo will purchase high quality articles for an upfront amount of money, and articles also generate income based on page views.

The amount that they will offer you for an article will vary. They could offer you nothing, or it could be $5. It is really up to them. What is more important than this upfront payment is the residual income that you can build from page views. Registration is free, and there are no costs for using this service. If you have writing skills, you must check this one out.

How Do You Do It?

If I had a dime for each time that someone messages me on Facebook and asked this question...I could stop freelancing and just have fun all day. The "how" part is what this blog is all about, but for now, lets discuss the "why."

I was pushed into the job market kicking and screaming. I had been raising my two children for many years, and had a husband that brought home the bacon. Things were great. I drank coffee, perused the internet, watched hundreds of episodes of Golden Girls and Roseanne, and played with this kids. Divorce would change all of that, and soon, the good times were over.

I did not go to college, and had no real life work experience as an adult. I took the first job that I was offered, which was a front desk position at a Best Western. I will not go into all of the jobs that were to follow over the course of the next six years. I was miserable at all of them, and spent my time daydreaming about working from home.

After dabbling in freelance writing, affiliate marketing, and other miscellaneous income methods online, I convinced myself that if I just had enough time, I could make it in the online freelancing world. In March of this year, I quit the job I hated, and started freelancing full time.

Fast forward to today. I'm still working from home, and I am getting by. I'm certainly not where I want to be, and am certainly not rich. The point to this blog will be to help those who have an independent spirit break away from the job that they hate. I cannot make any income promises, as the income you make will be determined by the amount of work you put in. I can only promise to tell you how I do it each day.
